Lady and the Tramp: Arturo Castro on Recreating the Famous Live Spaghetti Scene [Exclusive]

After a month with the Disney Plus launch, the online subscription channel is on its way to being the largest with subscribers base.

One of its flagship films on Disney Plus will be with the live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp.

As with the animation, the story follows a romantic tale between a Cocker Spaniel and a street dog.

The most iconic scene from the film will be with the dogs being serenaded in an alley over a plate of spaghetti. The live version has the restaurant owner Tony (played by F. Murray Abraham) and Joe the cook (played by Arturo Castro) singing under the moonlight to spark the romanticism.

To the delight of Disney Plus subscribers, the scene managed to capture the same magical moment from the cartoon classic.

LRM Online spoke with Arturo Castro earlier this month in promotion for the drama Semper Fi. He graciously talked about the famous scene in which he took part.

“It was a dream come true, man. That’s the scene I remembered from the cartoon when I was a kid. When I got cast, I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe somebody who looks like me could be in an iconic movie. F. Murray Abraham, who I did the scene with, we become close friends. It was magical. They shut down a whole section of Savannah, Georgia. Everything was in period with these carriages and costumes. We were like being in a Disney movie. I cannot believe my luck. Everybody I’ve talked to seems to like the scene. I’m glad I didn’t mess up people’s childhood by not learning how to play mandolin right. It was a dream come true. I’m so excited to have been a part of it,” he said.

Arturo has discussed about acting with the dogs in the scene.

He said, “The dogs were there. To get them to look at your face, you place a treat towards your forehead, and then you feed it to them. Every time they see you, they just associated your forehead as a place where the treats come from. That was a nice little trick to get them to look at you. They were so cute. I want to work with both of them again in a heartbeat.”

Lady and the Tramp is now playing on Disney Plus.
