Ava DuVernay Signs $100M Overall Deal With Warner Bros. TV

Recently, filmmaker Ava DuVernay stepped away from the House of Mouse to direct a New Gods film for Warner Bros., and it looks like her relationship with that overall family of companies is growing stronger in the very near future, as Deadline reports.

According to the outlet, the Emmy-winning DuVernay and her Forward Movement company has just signed a deal with Warner Bros. Television. It is unclear how long the duration of this deal is at this point, but we do know it will cover multiple years and multiple genres. It is also believed to be somewhere in the $100 million range, which is fitting for the executive producer of shows like Queen Sugar and Red Line.

I’ve had nothing but beautiful experiences working with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, and Brett Paul,” Duvernay told the outlet. “They love and support artists in wonderful and nourishing ways. They work within a traditional studio headed by Kevin Tsujihara that is stirring with untraditional energy and fresh protocols for intentional, inclusive image-making. Warner Bros. is a terrific partner about matters of visibility and belonging for all kinds and cultures of people, which is our mission at Forward Movement. I couldn’t be happier to call Warner Bros. TV my production home.”

“Ava DuVernay is one of the leading lights in our industry, a brilliantly talented writer, producer, director and entrepreneur whose ability to inspire with her art is exceeded only by her ability to entertain,” said Warner Bros. TV Group President and Chief Content Officer Peter Roth on Monday. “We have had the great pleasure of working with her on Queen Sugar and The Red Line, and we are extremely excited about the new stories she has to tell.”

The deal is set to begin in January of next year.
