Avengers: Endgame – Funny Thor-Valkyrie Moment That Was Cut From Film

Will they, won’t they? That seemed to be the question between Thor and Valkyrie. Sure, it was refreshing as hell that there wasn’t actually a romantic subplot in Thor: Ragnarok, but for many folks, there seemed to be an expectation that at some point the duo would hook up and lead the way for gorgeous god-like babies to flood the New Asgard, but the ending of Avengers: Endgame seemed to put an end to that speculation. Sort of.

If you’ll recall, the movie ended with Thor leaving the planet with the Guardians of the Galaxy, leaving New Asgard in the capable hands of Valkyrie. While it’s not impossible that Thor and Valkyrie won’t be meeting in the future, it certainly seems like a romantic connection is less likely. Apparently, in the original cut of Avengers: Endgame, they put a more definitive button that relationship, as Anthony Russo revealed to Sirius XM.

“If you’ll remember at the end of the film where Thor is saying goodbye to Valkyrie and he’s turning over Asgard to her…he had this beat with Valkyrie where after he turns the kingdom to her, she puts her arm on his shoulder, and he sort of starts to lean in for a kiss, and she’s like ‘What are you doing?’ And he goes ‘Oh, I thought touch…’ and she’s like ‘Yeah, it’s a goodbye tap I’m giving you.'”

Joe Russo went on to say it was a beat that was mostly improvised by actors Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, but that they had to cut it simply because they were looking for any moment they could squeeze out of the movie for a tighter viewing experience.

What do you think of this choice? Are you happy we didn’t get that awkward beat between the two? Let us know down below!
