It’s always fun to wait for the How it Should Have Ended animated shorts to come out after the biggest movie have been released and there’s none bigger than Avengers: Endgame right now.
Whilst I’d say this HISHE is not quite on the same level as previous iterations, I think that’s probably mostly because the ending of Avengers: Endgame worked pretty well and I think this series works a little better with movies that didn’t end as well as they could have.
Saying that, there are still a few brilliant nuggets in here, my personal favorite being the stand-off between Thanos and Groot where Thanos says “I am inevitable” and Groot says “I am Groot”, then Batman appears and says “I am Batman” and snaps away Thanos without any Infinity Stones, just because he’s Batman. Other highlights were Wong simply soloing Thanos and his armies in a few seconds and when they took the pi** out of that ‘girl power’ scene from the final battle.
Saying all that there were a few beats that missed completely for me, especially when they were debating how and why Black Widow should have returned from the dead, which I suppose was juxtaposed with the great skit of Red Skull deciding he’s had enough and sacrificing himself. I did think it was interesting the way they ‘fixed’ Tony Stark, because realistically the time stone had been used for this very purpose in Avengers: Infinity War by Thanos himself, so why couldn’t Strange just repair Stark using the Eye of Agamoto? I personally like to think that Strange explored this in one of his 14 million endings and it was a disaster for some reason we cannot comprehend with our tiny human brains.

All in all, not the gest HISHE I’ve ever seen, but let’s face it, they are usually always worth a few laughs with each one, so what else can we really ask for? Oh and final positive mention for them using Hulk’s failed time travel experiments to de-age Cap at the end.
