Avengers: Endgame Predicted To Make $2 Billion

This past Friday Marvel Studios finally released the first trailer for the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame trailer, which as of yesterday had already been seen over 41 million times on YouTube, becoming their most viewed trailer ever. They hype for this film has been so high that I believe it has made their Captain Marvel film almost an after though, sure we want to see it, but we need to see Avengers: Endgame. Now many experts in the industry are predicting that this film will earn $2 billion worldwide.

I can tell you that I am no expert in the way box office numbers work or any analytics behind the marketing of a film, but the prediction that Avengers: Endgame is going to make $2 billion, is almost like predicting that the sun is going to come out tomorrow. In my opinion this film doesn’t even need trailers, posters, etc. to be a success. We all know where we are going to be the weekend this film opens in theaters and we know that for a lot of us, watching it one time around is not going to be enough. But let’s take a moment to look at the reasons that CNBC has put together behind their expert predictions.

First there is the obvious reason that Avengers: Infinity War, the first part of the film also grossed over $2 billion during it’s summer run. According to Shawn Robbins, chief analyst for BoxOffice.com, “the stakes have been raised organically, and the slow reveal surrounding Endgame only intensifies curiosity,” Robbins said. “We’re talking about the safest box office bet since ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ itself and the recent episodic ‘Star Wars’ films.”

Writer for SuperBroMovies.com Daniel Richtman also talked about the the confidence that audiences have with Marvel Studios films and even compares it Disney/Pixar films that we already know the whole family can enjoy. Making it easier for families to pay up at their local theaters to watch these blockbusters. “I think that, at this point we can have confidence in Marvel. No other movie studio [except] for Pixar managed to deliver such a streak of high-quality, entertaining big budget action/adventure films that everyone can enjoy,” commented Richtman.

This is is clearly evident by the fact that six Marvel Studios films have crossed that $1 billion mark. Films including The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. By looking at these statistics, it’s safe to say that most moviegoers have seen a good chunk of the films from Marvel Studios and now with this trailer from Avengers: Endgame it all comes together, with recognizable characters from all of their films. This is another thing that Avengers: Endgame has going for it according to Kia Afra, a Chapman University film professor.

“Just watching the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ trailer demands an understanding of not only the Avengers series, but also the various other interconnected Marvel franchises,” Afra said. “Avengers is thus a truly inter-textual blockbuster franchise on the scale that hasn’t been attempted before.”

Like I commented before, the fact that it’s going to make $2 billion is not much of a story as everyone is very hyped about this film, but it is interesting to take a moment a look back at the amazing franchise that led up to this moment and how now that all but guarantees that Avengers: Endgame a success. Let’s be honest, besides the title of the film and the new release date, there wasn’t anything in there that we already didn’t see coming, but because of the hype created since the end of Avengers: Infinity War, it didn’t really matter what Marvel Studios put out, everyone was still going to over-react. Forget the trailers and images, just give me the movie already!
