Avengers: Infinity War somehow managed to really exceed many expectations in terms of what a team-up film could be. While I’d still argue there were plenty of flaws in the movie, I still maintain it was about as anyone could have expected for a story that features so many big superheroes. In fact, it’s kind of a miracle that it isn’t an outright mess, with that in mind.
That being said, in some respects, it was ultimately a bit unfulfilling for me thanks to its relative lack of character development. However, with Avengers: Endgame, I hope to really see that complaint remedied. Not only are we dealing with fewer supers this time around, but we’re also dealing with the original Avengers lineup, which will indeed be the focus, as Kevin Feige said to Empire.

“People would point out that that Cap wasn’t in Infinity War a whole lot, and Iron Man didn’t really speak for that last half hour because of what was going on. But those characters, and all of the original six, are very much the focus of Endgame in a very personal and emotional way.”
“Personal” is what is most important to me. In order for this story to resonate, they need to be truly personal, and in that last movie, there was something really lacking in that department. Hopefully, with the familiar faces now back, we can really dig deep into those aspects and really give them all the sendoff they deserve.
