We are exactly one month away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War, and given the history of Marvel films in the past, you’d be forgiven to expect that we’d be getting social media reactions for it within the next couple of weeks. Such was the case for movies like Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok…but is it the case for the latest huge team-up flick?
Not really. For this film, it sounds like Marvel Studios is shooting for a more traditional social media and review embargo. According to Disney themselves, the review embargo is Tuesday, April 24 at 3pm PT, just a few days before the worldwide release of the film. On the social media front, the embargo is the day before, April 23 at 10:30pm PT.
As stated above, this is generally a lot later than these movies usually get, but from the sound of it, it has nothing to do with concerns about the quality of the movie, and more to do with the studio worrying about specific reveals and plot twists.
All this mean for fans is that they don’t have to hear critics raving or ranting about a film weeks before they get a chance. Hopefully, this will allow them to go into the film a bit cleaner and free of bias — but let’s be real, we’ll all be eating up those initial receptions the second they drop.
