Today is an important day for me, as it marks the 40th Anniversary of my all-time favorite movie. The Empire Strikes Back was released 40 years ago today, and I wasn’t even two yet. But, that movie captured my imagination like no other ever has.
Empire as it would come to be known by fans, is normally regarded by most fans as the best Star Wars movie. Not everyone agrees with that, some crazy people think The Last Jedi was better? However, for me Empire isn’t just the best Star Wars movie, it’s perfection. The characters, the score, the emotion, the dark tone, the pure shock of the twist, Empire had it all.
Now to celebrate this Anniversary, Disney has commissioned artist Matt Ferguson to create a brand new one-sheet poster for The Empire Strikes Back. Check it out below.
Impressive. Most impressive. Happy 40th anniversary, #TheEmpireStrikesBack! We’re celebrating with this incredible new poster art by artist @Cakes_Comics. What’s your favorite ESB moment? #ESB40 pic.twitter.com/SdR02yKYAl

Not only that, but you can hear from the artist himself. Here’s is what Ferguson had to say about his new artwork.
Happy 40th birthday #TheEmpireStrikesBack! Here's my new official one sheet poster for the film. It was SUCH a pleasure & an honour making this #StarWars art for Lucasfilm and Disney.
I should be able to share more next week as well #ESB40 pic.twitter.com/KiEoZ0Ncc2

In another life, I’d want this poster badly. Alas I’d have nowhere to put such a thing. Maybe if I ever get a man cave one day, I’ll try to pick up a print of this. I think it is a beautiful poster and really captures the essence of what Empire is about. I always felt like Empire was Darth Vader’s movie more than any other character. But, I love everyone in Empire, to be honest.

My mind goes back to recording LRM’s The Last Call Podcast with my co-host Kyle Malone. We covered every Star Wars movie in depth from a chronological order. I was actually still excited when we got to Empire. I think we talked for well over 3 hours about this classic Star Wars movie. Even Jammer, (who thinks The Last Jedi is better) didn’t have (I don’t think) a single negative thing to say about the movie. So yeah, we probably gushed over Empire a little, but why not?
This is what being a fan is all about isn’t it? That 40 years after it was first released The Empire Strikes Back still has power. That I can still get lost in the passion I have for this wonderful film.
What do you think of poster for The Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary? Leave your thoughts below as always.
