Who would’ve thought that Bad Boys for Life would open so well? I certainly didn’t think so. Given the troubled development this film faced, as well as the revolving door of directors, and audiences’ seeming non-desire to see this franchise not returning to the big screen, it seemed like this one was heading toward one heck of a flop.
But as the trailers hit, I started to feel an online buzz, and when reviews hit, it became clear that this wasn’t going to be your average, lackluster revival film. And audiences seemed to have responded with a decent amount of enthusiasm.

According to THR, the film took in $73.4 million over its four-day Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. Over the three-day weekend proper, it took in $62.2 million. Obviously, the second film came out nearly two decades ago, but this is a nice step up from $46.5 million Bad Boys II enjoyed in 2003. Clearly, people want to see more of this.
Overseas, it took in $37.3 million, making for a total of $110 million thus far. While I can’t say how this will ultimately turn out, its A CinemaScore does point to a potentially-long tail.
