Release Date #1 – March 5, 2024

Jace chats with Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins about their DC Black Label project featuring the earliest days of Batman. Dan talks about finding his relatable point to Bat-Man and how he planned out the story to fit into the current cannon if DC decides to go that way. Also Mike discusses the Art Deco influences and how he balanced that with the grittiness of Gotham City in the 1930’s. An interesting talk about the colors for the project as well, with a change in the overall feel of the colors early on. Lots to unpack in this one so listen in and be sure to pick up your copy.

Three-Issue DC Black Label Series Arrives in Participating Comic Book Shops and Participating E-Tailers Tuesday, March 5, 2024

Two of comics’ greatest storytellers take a new look at one of Batman’s most infamous cases, as DC today announced plans for The Bat-Man: First Knight, a three-issue Prestige Plus series published under the DC Black Label imprint (readers 17+) , and written by Dan Jurgens (Superman, Action Comics), with art by Mike Perkins (The Swamp Thing, Action Comics, Tales From the Dark Multiverse). Jurgens and Perkins are teaming up to tell a Batman story inspired by some of The Dark Knight’s earliest cases, through an acutely modern lens.

The year is 1939. The world, still reeling from the horrors of the First World War, is on the brink of tipping into an even more gruesome conflict, as fascism is on the march—and gathering strength in America’s darkest corners. Against this backdrop, a series of violent murders has begun in Gotham, and the recent emergence of the mysterious vigilante known as The Bat-Man has the power brokers of the city living in fear of institutional collapse. All of the evidence in the murder investigation defies logic: the perpetrators are all men who died in the electric chair. But when the Bat-Man comes face to face with one of these sickening anomalies, he barely escapes with his life—throwing into question his ability to survive in a world that is brutally evolving around him!

The debut issue of this series arrives in comic book shops Tuesday. March 5, 2024, and features a main cover by Perkins, with variant covers by Ramon Perez and Jacob Phillips, plus a “pulp novel” style variant cover by Marc Aspinall. Check out your local comic book shop for further details and pre-ordering.
