Get it? Battle of ‘The Toll’ movies… Battle of the Bastards… because Iwan Rheon from Game of Thrones stars in The Toll 2021… I wonder if I’m the only person pitting these two movies against each other. Although, I think Rheon’s film would win this one. The Toll 2020 was released in March and wasn’t well received. On July 9, Empire Magazine released the trailer for The Toll 2021.

On the Pembrokeshire border, a man (Michael Smiley: Kill List, Luther) working solo shifts in the quietest toll booth in Wales, hides from a criminal past where nobody would ever look. As his past actions catch up with him and his peace is shattered, he enlists the help of local ne’er-do-wells and oddballs (including a female Elvis impersonator, rampaging triplets and disgruntled sheep farmers) when village police officer Catrin (Annes Elwy: Little Women) grows increasingly suspicious…

I didn’t watch The Toll 2020, but I did watch the trailers for both and the 2020 film didn’t look good to me. I like horror movies, but there’s a lot out there that are disappointing. Many of people who reviewed the movie were pretty divided. A lot of them had issues with the ending. Also, the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb marked it around the middle overall, not terrible but not great. The Toll 2021 looks pretty funny and I’m looking forward to watching it.
The Toll 2021 stars Michael Smiley, Iwan Rheon, Paul Kaye, and Gary Beadle. The movie also stars Annes Elwy, Evelyn Mok, and Julian Glover. Directed by Ryan Andrew Hooper and written by Matt Redd, The movie will be released on August 27.
