We have some major Beetlejuice 2 news to share as the recently announced movie sets a release date. Plus we have some cast news as well as Tim Burton’s return to discuss. Deadline reports Warner Bros. will open Beetlejuice 2 on Sept. 6, 2024. The sequel is set to go under cameras starting today in London.
The trade also reports a few obvious ones such as Tim Burton’s return as director and the movie’s star being Michael Keaton. However, we also have further confirmation here that Wednesday‘s Jenny Ortega has been cast as the daughter of Lydia (Winona Ryder). So far there have been reports that Ryder will reprise her role as Lydia Deetz.
It may be trickier to bring back some of the previous cast members considering their deceased status in the first film. Would the dead characters played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis have aged, since they’re, you know, dead? I guess they could bring them back and makeup them to look a lot more….Dead. Some of the deceased in the original were made to look half decomposed, so one wonders if they could go down that route?
One returning cast member is Catherine O’Hara as Lydia’s set mother Delia. For now I’ve not seen any reports that Lydia’s father (Jeffrey Jones) will return in this sequel, nor Davis or Baldwin, yet. However, who knows what will come out as the movie shoot progresses in the coming weeks?

It was kind of an ensemble cast, yet given this story will likely focus more on Ortega. It’s therefore possible that O’Hara only cameos. I would at least be looking for some kind of explanation as to where Davis and Baldwin’s characters are though, unless Lydia has moved house. However you cannot see a situation where she would have moved house after how the first movie ended. I mean Davis and Baldwin’s characters were essentially acting as Lydia’s parents going forward.
One new cast member reported by Variety is Justin Theroux, though no details on the new character he would be portraying.
I do hope we hear something about Davis, Baldwin and Jones soon, if not, we will just have too see if the sequel matches up? I guess we will find out on Sept 6th, 2024.
