A recent report from Variety stated that writer-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were being tapped to take on the ambitious Flashpoint film. However, there was one other interesting fact in the report that couldn’t go ignored.

According to the outlet, Warner Bros. had actually been courting Justice League star and Oscar-winning filmmaker Ben Affleck to take on the gig. As we’re sure you can tell, Affleck didn’t take on the film, leaving Warner Bros. to turn to the Vacation-directing duo.

Sadly, there were no details as to why Affleck passed, but it is a questionable thing that the studio had turned to him. At what point in the past year had they turned to him? Was it after Affleck had hopped off The Batman? This seems to be a curious thing, as it’s been perfectly clear that Affleck has been ready to leave the DCEU for some time now.

However, with recent rumors that Warner Bros. would be giving Affleck a “last hurrah” in the Flashpoint film, the idea of them potentially giving him the helm makes a bit more sense. With other rumors stating that the studio has “soured” on Affleck, you have to wonder if him also passing up Flashpoint is partially responsible for it.

First, he drops out of The Batman as director, then he gets all wishy-washy in his role in the DCEU, and then he passes on another opportunity to direct. We guess that could be enough to make anyone sour.

How do you feel about Affleck reportedly passing on Flashpoint? Was it a good move on his part? Let us know your thoughts down below!
