While it hasn’t been confirmed just yet, Ben Affleck coming back to the DC Extended Universe as Batman seems like a tall order — one that it seems few are ultimately benefitting from. Personally, I think Affleck needs to get back to what he does best: making crime movies. Luckily for me, it looks like he’s already making efforts to get back on that path.
According to a new report from Deadline, Fox is set to win a film package which includes Ben Affleck in the director’s chair and his buddy Matt Damon as the lead role. The story currently doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s based on a recent article published on The Daily Beast called “How an Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald’s Monopoly Game And Stole Millions” by Jeff Maysh. As expected, this film will follow said ex-cop who, along with a group of “unsavory” co-conspirators, allegedly stole over $24 million.
Also exciting is the fact that Deadpool and Deadpool 2 scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are set to write the film. Personally, seeing those two coupled with Damon’s acting chops and Affleck’s eye for the screen…I can’t see this not being pure gold.
Bidding has reportedly been crazy competitive, with studios Universal, Warner Bros., and Netflix all being involved.
