Big Bang Theory Co-Creator Signs Netflix Deal

If Netflix has one big flaw it’s that it is losing some of its heavy hitters. No, I’m not talking about the big-budget Game of Thrones-esque projects. Ironically enough, Netflix has plenty of those. I’m talking about the good old-fashioned sitcoms. Last year saw two big juggernauts removed in the form of Friends and The Office, leaving many sitcom fans (i.e. countless mainstream viewers) high and dry. There is undoubtedly a void, and Netflix may have found the perfect talent to fill it.

Bill Prady, co-creator of the incredibly-popular Big Bang Theory series that just recently came to an end, has just signed a first-look deal with the streaming service. According to Deadline, he will develop, write, and produce TV series.

Of course, while I’ve personally highlighted comedy, his work may cover a range of genres, including comedy, drama, fantasy, and sci-fi.

“Bill Prady is a renowned storyteller, and with The Big Bang Theory he created characters who have defined a generation and will transcend the test of time,” Netflix’s Channing Dungey said. “We’re excited to tap into his treasure trove of ideas and bring his next slate of projects to life.”

“The opportunity to partner with Netflix is about more than just the support and creative freedom they have enthusiastically offered,” Prady said in a statement. “Their approach to television and respect for the viewer allow for the kind of in-depth storytelling I have long been a fan of. We are excited to not only develop and produce our own projects, but also to find and champion new voices with new visions.”

Do you see Prady’s signing on to Netflix as a way for them to lock down a long-running sitcom audiences can take to? Let us know your thoughts down below!
