BioShock Movie Coming From Netflix

Bioshock director Francis Lawrence talks the progress and tone of the upcoming adaptation for Netflix

Variety has reported that a BioShock movie is coming from Netflix. There has been attempts to make a film from the BioShock games before that faltered due to escalating budgets. However as reported by the trade:

The streamer is teaming up with 2K and Take-Two Interactive to adapt the popular video game series as a film, details of which were announced Tuesday. Vertigo Entertainment and Take-Two will produce the movie, which does not have a director or talent attached as of yet.

“Netflix is among the best and most forward-thinking storytellers in all of entertainment today,” said Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive in a statement. “We are thrilled that they share our vision and commitment to the ‘BioShock’ franchise, which is beloved by millions of fans around the world. 2K’s Cloud Chamber studio is deep in active development on the next iteration of the series, and coupled with our partnership with Netflix, we remain highly confident that ‘BioShock’ will continue to captivate and engage audiences like never before.”

There really is no more key information in the report other than some background on exactly what BioShock actually is. I’ll instead assume that if this news really interests you it’s because you’e come across the BioShock games before. I am a huge fan of BioShock and would rank the first one up there as one of my favorite ever games. In LRM Towers I am not alone, as my The Cantina co-host Kyle Malone is also a huge BioShock fan and we have many times discussed what we want to see from the fourth game in the series which is being developed now.

As for the movie? I’m not sure if it will work or not? The idea of a show to me would be better than a movie. However, perhaps a series of connected movies could work in a similar way, but afford a greater budget? The stories of BioShock are as fantastic as the environments, but which would be getting here? BioShock: Infinite is a very different game than the first two, which were both far more directly tied together. Even then, the protagonist of BioShock is not the one from game 2. Then, as said above, even more changes happen in game 3.

Could we get some Universe hopping with Elizabeth and Booker? Or instead could this be a movie about the fall of Rapture into chaos under the sea? Your guess is as good as mine. However I am intrigued to know more. Are you excited to see a BioShock movie coming from Netflix? Now would you kindly leave a comments letting us know how you feel below?
