According to a Sky News journo, Oscar winning Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter joins the Blade movie. All we know so far about Blade is that Bassam Tariq is set to direct an adaptation from writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour, and that Mahershala Ali will star.
However as for when production is set to begin, no word as yet. What we do know is that Blade is dated for November 3rd, 2023. We would therefore expect to see the movie film reasonably soon and hiring a costumer designer may be a step towards that.
I’ve marked this as Barside Buzz because I have no idea how connected a Sky News reporter would be with this side of the business. We shall see if any of the trades back it up soon.

It was rather surprising when Carter did not return to do the costume design for Wakanda Forever, considering she won an Oscar for the first movie. Instead Mobolaji Dawodu designed all the costumes for Wakanda Forever. Tough boots to fill, but everything looks great in the trailer so far. It would seem though, like Blade is in safe hands when it comes to the costume department.

Given how little we know about Blade, it’s hard to connect with any of Carter’s other movie work. As said above that’s all we know and outside of rumors we have almost no casting details outside of star Ali, who was announced years ago now. I for one can’t wait to see what Ali looks like in costume. My main frame of reference in my mind I have is the Wesley Snipes version.
