Gotta love the ability to get one’s voice out there, though the downside here is that we get petitions for pretty much everything under the sun, including this one for Black Panther.
As you may have guessed, there is a lot of enthusiasm for Marvel Studios’ latest film, and while it’s easy to assume that people would just want another film as soon as humanly possible, there are some fans who would prefer a TV series.
A fan named Eric Hamilton took to Change.org to create a petition, and in it, he pushes for Marvel and Netflix to create a Wakanda series. Here’s what he says in the petition:
“Telling the back story of Wakanda would be a game changer. How did Wakanda become the most technologically advanced country on Earth? From the technology to the artistry coupled with the rich African traditions, the fans demand more.
The Black Panther fanbase would love to see a Wakanda Series on Netflix. This series would expand the depth of the Marvel universe and we feel Marvel/Disney would enjoy creating and adapting these stories as much as we would love watching them. Do you agree? If so, then sign and share this petition.”
While I’m always pretty damn negative when it comes to these petitions, I do see where this sentiment is coming from. Yes, Black Panther was a standalone superhero film, but in many ways, it didn’t feel like it. It had an ensemble cast of characters, and was more of a Wakanda film than a Black Panther film. More than anything, many fans left the theater wanting to see more of that world.
As such, it makes sense, they’d want to see it done in a TV series more than a film. In such a format, there would be time to really build out the world and linger on the culture and economy of this unique country. But is this possible? You never know with Disney…though as much as this petitioner wants, if it were to happen, the chances of them putting their prized gem on Netflix instead of their own streaming service are slim to none.
