Black Panther hasn’t even come out yet, but it’s already a huge hit with critics, and is on course to break all sorts of records for Marvel Studios. With that in mind, you’d better bet that we’ll be seeing a sequel at some point down the road.

But with all this praise for the film, is that something we can really expect? Speaking with Variety, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said:

“We always say we work on one movie at a time. If you have any good ideas, put it in the movie you’re making. If you don’t, you might not be able to make another one. That said, Panther has been around for more than half a century in the comic books and there are many, many stories to tell.”

The outlet went on to ask if they think Coogler would come back for a second outing with the King of Wakanda, and Feige responded with, “I hope so.” When asked whether or not he’d wanted Coogler to come back, Feige said, “Nah, not really. We think the film could have been so much more, and we’d hate to see what he’d do in a sequel.”

Obviously, he didn’t say that. His answer was, of course, “Absolutely.” Given just how much praise this movie is getting, and how much money it’s set to make, it’s hard to imagine any studio being dumb enough to close that door.
