The latest Barside Buzz around Marvel is that the Blade script is being completely rewritten. We all know Blade has been in development for some time with star Mahershala Ali signed to lead. It’s also been know for some time that the original writers and directors were replaced (it is rumored Ali was unhappy with the first script). However, according to insider Daniel RPK on his Patreon, he’s heard the the current plan, or enacted plan, is a full page one rewrite of Blade.
It is possible that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and the delays they caused gave more writing time? Quite often studios will take the draft of the script from the pitch they like, then ask another writer to take that template and freshen it up. I think most in this industry assumed that would be what would happen with Blade. Given all the delays, Blade is now not expected until 14th February, 2025. Whereas originally it was supposed to release September, 2024, then before that sometime this year.
Ultimately this movie has been getting delayed since 2021 for a variety of reasons.

One would imagine that (not officially) the writers have been working on this new script. However, will it be ready to film by next year to make that 2025 date? Good question, but not one we can answer without more knowledge. It is possible that Marvel were expecting an updated script once the WAG strike ended but were presented with a completely different script. Ultimately this could cause further delays if Marvel are in any way unsatisfied with the new script.
Given that the new writer is Nic Pizzolato of True Detective fame, I’m interested to see what he’s come up with. Blade could be a breath of fresh air for the currently beleaguered MCU. Or, it could be another nail in the coffin of Marvel? I’ll always hope for the former, but for now I kinda expect the latter.
