Borderlands: Cate Blanchett Re-Teams With Director Eli Roth For Video Game Adaptation

Well, things got just a little more official over on the video game adaptation front. Back in February, the development of the Borderlands live-action movie took a significant step forward when Eli Roth signed on. The horror aficionado, with his pulpy sensibilities, seemed like a good fit. However, like all Hollywood productions, I was doubtful. Whenever you have big titles like this, they often come with a ton of baggage and require a lot of work to get any real momentum.

But now it looks like another significant step has been taken toward the Borderlands movie becoming a reality. According to THR, Cate Blanchett has just hopped on board the Lionsgate production as Lilith. Lilith, for those who don’t know, is a siren and legendary thief.

This will mark the actress’ second outing with Roth. Most recently, the two worked together on The House With a Clock in Its Walls. The film saw her starring alongside Jack Black, and based on the fact that she’s working with Roth again, it seems like they had a good enough time to warrant another outing.

Of course, while this is a great thing for Borderlands fans — as Blanchett is exceptional — it still doesn’t guarantee anything. Most video game adaptations take about half a million years to make their way to the big screen, and while this is all reaffirming, nothing is set in stone just yet. But that doesn’t need to stop you for feeling just the slightest big optimistic about everything.
