This is big ladies and gentlemen, the first chink in Marvel’s armor has been exposed. Coming just weeks since James Gunn’s firing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe,we get word that production Guardians of the Glaxy Vol. 3 is on hold. Sources told THR that pre-production crews have been set free to seek other employment.

It was expected that GotG3 would be filming relatively soon and be released in 2020. So what does this breaking news mean? If the same sources are correct then this is temporary and more like the team getting together to regroup than scratching the project.

Marvel has a lot invested in this franchise, which has made them over $1.6 billion world wide. James Gunn was fired back in July when unsavory social media posts from years ago were brought to light. Since then the cast of the movies have been outspoken in their support of Gunn, especially Dave Bautista. Bautista has been insistent in his demand for the Gunn script to be used and even threatened to leave the project if it wasn’t.

There have been many voices in the geek community that have asked Disney to reinstate Gunn as director, and the current Change.Org petition asking the same has over 385,000 signatures on it.

This writer was surprised by Gunn’s hiring in the first place given his history with Troma, an entertainment company responsible for The Toxic Avenger and  Poultrygeist. However, Gunn did an amazing job as director of the first Guardians of the Galaxy and was poised to cap off a beloved trilogy. I personally hope that Marvel get’s their Howard the Duck’s in a row and figure this out soon.

What do you think of this news? Is the expected 2020 release date in danger? What do you think will happen as far as writing and directing is expected? Le us know in the comments below.
