Legacy Of Wrestling Legend British Bulldog Lives On With Help From His Daughter Georgia Smith [Exclusive Interview]

Professional wrestler Davey Boy Smith aka The British Bulldog may be gone but he still lives in the hearts of many.We lost this wrestling legend over 18 years ago and now his only daughter, Georgia Smith, keeps his legacy alive. Georgia created an official webpage as well as an Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook site all dedicated to her late father. Thanks to this internet presence wrestling superstars and fans alike finally have a place to connect and share memories of this larger than life British champion.

Bark On The Family Tree

The British Bulldog is the most famous wrestler to come from the United Kingdom. Wrestling became popular in England mainly due to his large success. He started out in a tag team known as The British Bulldogs with his partner and cousin, the Dynamite Kid. The tag team disbanded and he then adopted the name for himself. After his move to Canada he married Diana Hart and became a part of the most famous wrestling dynasty that has ever existed to this day. The Hart family bloodline consists of many professional wrestlers including figurehead Stu Hart and his two sons Bret “The Hitman” Hart and Owen Hart,  Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, Natalya Neidhart, Teddy Hart, as well as Georgia’s brother, Harry, to name a few.

Every Dog Has His Day

Davey Boy Smith has one of the most impressive wrestling careers of all time. This European champion lived through several eras of wrestling and made an impact in all of them. He was a reigning champ in the WWF, feuded in the WCW, and was big in Japan and overseas.

Early in his career he grappled with superstars like the Iron Sheik, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, and had a camaraderie with Andre the Giant. He later dropkicked Typhoon at the Royal Albert Hall in London, showed his strength and gave a 450 pound Vader a delayed vertical suplex on RAW, and received the people’s elbow from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Smackdown. His most famous match is when he wrestled his brother-in-law, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, at SummerSlam in 1992 at Wembley Stadium in front of a crowd of over 80,000 people, one of the largest attended wrestling events of all time. British Bulldog won this hometown match and went on to win the belt and become the Intercontinental Champion. Talk about a family feud!

All Dogs Go To Heaven

The British Bulldog gave his body and soul to the sport of wrestling and to the fans. Life on the road and hundreds body slams in the ring begins to takes its toll.  The stories remain scripted but the physical aftermath of a match is real.  Smith put his body through physical torture in the ring, which resulted in surgeries and rehabilitation, but the pain never subsided.  Davey Boy Smith passed away from a heart attack at the early age of 39.

“Heeling” Process

Still hurting from the loss of her father at a young age, Georgia Smith uses the several platforms she created as a healing process. The daily posts make her feel closer to her father who was on the road a lot when she was growing up. She communicates with fans and protects the legacy the British Bulldog broke his back (literally) achieving. The hard work from both of them has finally paid off; be on the lookout for the British Bulldog’s WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2020.I had the opportunity to interview Georgia Smith. She shared memories of her father and talked about the sites she made to make sure Davey Boy Smith has an official online presence. In contrast to her brother Harry aka Davey Boy Smith Jr., she says inside the ring is no place for her, although she would like to be involved in some capacity. Georgia has the brains as well as the beauty to accomplish anything.  She witnessed the training in the Hart dungeon and was a part of their Sunday family dinners too.  Wrestling is in her blood and it’s in her destiny. I can totally see her accompanying a future superstar to the ring as a manager or valet.  The following interview is scheduled for one call, enjoy!
