While this year will see the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp, with a female superhero getting equal billing for the first time in a modern Marvel film, next year’s Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel Studios film where a female superhero gets to lead a movie all by her lonesome.
With that, there is a great deal of pressure on the directors, as well as the writers to absolutely hit a home run with this character. CinemaBlend had a chance to sit down with one of those writers, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, when discussing her work on Tomb Raider, and when asked about Captain Marvel, she delved a bit into her overall experience with the character.

“Carol Danvers is someone I really enjoyed writing because she just loves kicking ass. She just has the best time, and that’s something, hat’s off to the comics, that’s how she is in the comics and they created an amazing character. She was a joy to write because she’s just always having fun. Always funny. Yeah. I had a blast with her.”
Of course, that doesn’t tell us a whole lot of the film, and given how little we know about Robertson-Dworet herself, it’s impossible to know how the film will turn out. Along with co-writer Lindsey Beer, she’s been attached to such high profile pics as Sherlock Holmes 3, Silver & Black, Tomb Raider, and even Dungeons & Dragons. That all seems well and good, but none of those films are out yet, so all we can assume based on this is that studios love working with her, and it’s not necessarily a sign that she’s the best person for the job.
But, of course, Marvel Studios has been killing it from day one, and we have no reason to expect they’d accept anything less than great from their writers.
