While Ant-Man and the Wasp was a nice palate cleanser after the brutal Avengers: Infinity War, most audiences were most excited to see Captain Marvel. Not only will this film introduce the studio’s first solo female headlining superhero, but it will also be a film that better ties into the events of the team-up film we just witnessed, as evidenced by the ominous post-credits scene.

Now, Marvel Studios and EW have teamed up to give us a first look at the upcoming picture, which stars Brie Larson in the title role. But what will the film version of Carl Danvers be like?

“She can’t help but be herself,” Larson told the outlet. “She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.”

It’s probably a good thing that she has the Cap mindset in her, as the baddies she’ll be up against are none other than the Skrulls. In the film, Ben Mendelsohn will be playing Talos, the leader who is spearheading an Earth invasion in the ’90s. Clearly, she has her work cut out for her.

But don’t expect her to be something of a Wonder Woman-esque hero. Co-director Anna Boden makes it clear that the woman — who is torn between her human sensibilities and her alien abilities — is very much a flawed human:

“This is not a superhero who’s perfect or otherworldly or has some godlike connection. But what makes her special is just how human she is. She’s funny, but doesn’t always tell good jokes. And she can be headstrong and reckless and doesn’t always make the perfect decisions for herself. But at her core, she has so much heart and so much humanity — and all of its messiness.”
