CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zone Begins Production

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man.
It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity.
It is the middle ground between light and shadow,
between science and superstition,
and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge.
This is the dimension of imagination.
It is an area which we call . . . the Twilight Zone.

These were the words went along with the very well known creepy theme song of The Twilight Zone. The show premiered on October 2nd, 1959 and it went on to become quite the hit as it’s episodes focused on exploring the human condition and culture of the times. The series ran on CBS from 1959 until 1964.

Now 59 years later CBS All Access via the video clip that you can check out above has made an announcement that production has officially began on the first season of the new CBS All Access Original Series, The Twilight Zone. It takes a minute to go back and look at some of audiences favorite episodes before briefly talking about the new show. Principal photography began on October 1st in Vancouver, British Columbia and is set to premiere sometime in 2019 on CBS All Access.

The role of host and narrator, made famous by Rod Serling, will now fall into the hands of Jordan Peele who also serves on the series as executive producer with Simon Kinberg, Win Rosenfeld, Audrey Chon, Carol Serling, Rick Berg and Greg Yaitanes.

With a lot of bad reboots and remakes these days it’s tough sometimes to get excited for projects like this, especially one that is still around these days even though it’s 59 years old. Some of my favorite episodes are Living Doll, To Serve Man and Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. It will be interesting to see how Peele and the rest of the production crew keep that Twilight Zone feel while making the episodes relevant to our day and age. Also it would be cool to see them take some of the original episodes and rework them as well.
