Cecily Strong to Have Strong Supporting Role in ‘Ghostbusters’

Another SNL member may join the next “Ghostbusters” film.

First reported on Film Divider, details had emerged that Paul Feig is looking at Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong for a non-Ghostbuster role in the film. If she signs, then she will join two current SNL members Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and alumnus Kristen Wiig.

Melissa McCarthy is the only non-SNL cast member in the film, but she had hosted the shows on three different occasions.

Her character is described as “one of the biggest non-Ghostbuster parts aside from the villain.” She will play a figure who supports the heroines’ activities privately, but denounces them publicly to avoid a widespread panic.

According to the site, the role was specifically written for Strong by screenwriter Katie Dippold.

“Ghostbusters” is scheduled to be in theaters on July 22, 2016.
