Writer/director/actor Nate Parker, who some of you may recognize from films like NON-STOP and RED TAILS, made quite the splash at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. With him, he brought the ironically-titled BIRTH OF A NATION, a film about slavery in the antebellum south in the U.S.

The film went on to get acquired by Fox Searchlight for a whopping $17.5 million, which is the largest deal the festival has had to date. In addition, the reviews for the film have largely been overwhelmingly positive. Given the weight of the source material, it’s a film that many have been looking forward to seeing for some time. Now, with a release date of October 7 set, Fox Searchlight has released a teaser trailer for the film.

Check it out below!

“Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.”
