Long before fans had realistic hopes of a Star Wars sequel trilogy, Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn series was, though unofficially, considered by many to be the continuation of the saga. The author is set to bring his next Star Wars trilogy in May of next year.
As you can see in the tweet from Star Wars Books, Zahn is taking his now canon character of Grand Admiral Thrawn (canonized in Star Wars Rebels) to the unknown regions of a galaxy far, far away. Check out the tweet for yourselves below.
A long time ago, beyond a galaxy far, far away….
Beginning in May 2020, an all new trilogy by Timothy Zahn journeys beyond the edge of the map into the Unknown Regions. #ThrawnAscendancy Book I: Chaos Rising#Thrawnsgiving #HappyThrawnsgiving

The post also includes the cover for Thrawn Ascendency Book I: Chaos Rising, the first book in Zahn’s new series. Many fans think that Zahn’s original Thrawn trilogy would have been a good basis for Disney’s sequel trilogy and perhaps just as many think otherwise. Disney shot down any hopes of the idea when they decanonized the Star Wars Expanded Universe and reclassified all content as Star Wars Legends.
