Check Out The Journey To The Rise Of Skywalker Books

Do you remember all of the books and tie-ins leading up to The Force Awakens? Do you remember how great they were and how much information they really provided to fill the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens? Do you remember how great it was to fully understand the reason why the New Republic wouldn’t fight the First Order, how the First Order came to be, and why the Resistance wasn’t fully supported? Yeah, neither do I. In reality, the filler for the period between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy has been mostly vague and boring.

We know there will be a bit of a time gap between the last movie and the upcoming finale, and it appears we’ll be getting at least one novel to help fill that gap.

Resistance Reborn appears to be the primary source for information on the events after The Last Jedi. It will be released November 12th. It’s official description is:

In this Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker novel, Poe Dameron, General Leia Organa, Rey, and Finn must struggle to rebuild the Resistance after their defeat at the hands of the First Order in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Force Collector is described as a Young Adult novel and it takes place just before The Force Awakens. How this ties into TRoS remains to be seen as the description doesn’t really make it seem like it does.

In this Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker young adult novel set just before The Force Awakens, a restless teenager sets out to discover what connection his mysterious Force powers have to the fabled Jedi and what the Force has in store for him.

It is possible that this will answer some questions about Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy, the Knights of Ren, and the rise of the First Order, but I doubt it. This book hits shelves November 19th.

Allegiance will be a four-issue comic book series published by Marvel. This one takes place after TFA and I assume after TLJ, but the description is a little vague:

On the run since the destruction of the Starkiller Base, General Leia and the remaining handful of Resistance have barely managed to survive, much less strike back against the superior forces of the First Order. Running low on options, Leia decides to reach out to her former allies, the Mon Calamari, whose shipyards once powered the Rebel Alliance.

TLJ takes place immediately after TFA so it would be hard to have a story take place in the few hours between those two, but crazier things have happened with Disney at the helm of Star Wars. This series will be released weekly starting October 9th.

There are several children’s books coming out too. Many of them focusing on Rey and the Resistance. There is one Little Golden Book titled We Are the Resistance that is described as having scenes from all three Sequel Trilogy movies. There will also be an updated Star Wars encyclopedia hitting October 4th:

This fully updated, comprehensive, and detailed encyclopedia explores the characters, creatures, locations, vehicles, and technology found throughout the entire Star Wars galaxy. Ultimate Star Wars New Edition is an in-depth visual guide packed full of exhaustive information about Star Wars, including The Last Jedi, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Star Wars: Resistance and a sneak peek at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Most of us thought that many of the questions we had about the galaxy between RotJ and TFA would be answered by the time The Last Jedi hit, they weren’t. The books, the comics, the games, the shows, and the movies have all failed to give us the depth of the story that the old Expanded Universe did. Disney seems so afraid to let something be described or explained in print. It would be somewhat forgivable if we had been getting some answers during TFA and TLJ, but now we have to hope The Rise of Skywalker completes the story. however, that means shoving too much into a single movie. Spending too much time dealing with the past and leaving the present with less development.

Are you excited about any of these titles? Do you feel the new canon books have failed to deliver enough substance to the story? Let us know in the comments below.
