The latest iteration of beloved Disney characters Chip ‘n’ Dale has found it’s director. Akiva Schaffer (who is part of Lonely Island along with Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg) has joined the project that will oversee the return of the chipmunk duo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film won’t be an origin for the characters, and also won’t have them in the Rescue Rangers role, well, at least it’s said that the film won’t be about their detective agency.
So, sometimes, some crimes, don’t get solved by two chipmunks. The film is said to be be a blend of live-action and CGI, and is said to have a real meta feel to it.

While I was a fan of Rescue Rangers as a child (as well as Ducktales and Darkwing Duck) I do like the way this film is said to be going, the whole self-referencing meta thing, as with most any cinematic technique, can be really cool if used properly. Though I can’t say I would be opposed to a Rescue Ranger story either.
What do you think of this said-to-be self-referential take on Chip ‘n’ Dale, or are you more of Rescue Rangers type person? Let us know in the comments down below!
