Some news today has made the jump from rumor to mainstream, as Chris Evans returns to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. It has long been rumored that Evans was back for Secret Wars, though Doomsday was somewhat unclear. Now several trades are reporting that Evans has signed on to return to the MCU in Doomsday.
As per Deadline,
‘Chris Evans is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the Joe and Anthony Russo directed, Avengers: Doomsday.’
‘At this point in time, the role isn’t entirely clear, but sources say Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson character will also return as Captain America. Evans in the Captain America costume seems less likely. However, it wouldn’t be a shock if he reprises Steve Rogers.’
Some are reporting this as first confirmation Sam will appear in Doomsday, but that I say, yeah, sure. We’ve known Mackie was playing Sam in this one since day dot. Some had expected Evans to only show up for the Doomsday sequel Secret Wars, but it now appears he’ll be back for Doomsday also.

We also as you know have the return of RDJ, though not as Tony Stark. This time RDJ plays Victor Von Doom and who knows therefore by what means Evans will come back? Captain Multiverse? I always felt Evans left the role of Captain America too soon. I’m not sure his career has really taken off since Endgame. I’m less against his return therefore than RDJ coming back as Tony, who actually died.
What do you think of the news that Chris Evans returns to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday? Thoughts below as always.
