Aaron Taylor-Johnson Talks Sharing Marvel’s Quicksilver On The Big Screen With Evan Peters

Back in 2014, Marvel fans were thrown into a frenzy when two different versions of the mutant anti-hero Quicksilver were set to appear in separate cinematic universes. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the future star of Kraven the Hunter, was announced for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron while his Kick-Ass co-star Evan Peters was set to star in Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Peters’ take proved popular enough to appear in subsequent projects while Taylor-Johnson was one and done due to the character’s tragic demise.

Speaking to IMDb, Taylor-Johnson reflected on his first reaction to sharing Quicksilver with Peters at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con:

“I remember passing him at Comic-Con where they had the X-Men lineup of guys, and we both had a moment like sort of a pinch yourself moment of like ‘Oh my God, aren’t we so lucky that we got to be here and still be here doing what we love doing? But funny that we’re in two different sort of universes doing it.’”

Marvel fans were polarized by early images of Peters as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver in a non-comic accurate costume. However, they were quickly won over by the now iconic Pentagon jailbreak sequence of speedy mutant breaking Magneto free. Though Taylor-Johnson’s version lacked the Magneto connection in Age of Ultron, his respect for Peters validates the positives of having multiple versions of a character on screen.

“To be honest, [I have] a huge admiration for what he was able to do with his character, with some things that [he thinks] were fantastic and worked really well for that character. It’s interesting to kind of have that you know. I think when you’re a comic book character that has the sort of attachment to Magneto and House of M, you can have these different connections. That’s kind of cool.”

Peters’ last appearance as Quicksilver came in the Disney+ series WandaVision when he was summoned by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). He was later revealed to be an impostor fugitive named “Ralph Bohner” under the mind control of Agatha (Kathryn Hahn). Reacting to Wanda bringing Peter’s Quicksilver in the MCU, Taylor-Johnson joked, “I don’t know why she didn’t resurrect me, though.”

Which actor do you think played the better version of Quicksilver? Would you want to see Aaron Taylor-Johnson reprise the role in the MCU? Let us know in the comments.
