Christian Bale is no stranger to big budget films. The actor has been around for decades, but he really made his mark on mainstream audiences with his portrayal of Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Trilogy. While Bale has made a conscious effort since then to stick to lower budget fare, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he’d return to the big budget fold.

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bale even confirmed that he was in talks to have a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Here’s what he said:

“Yes, [it was] very tempting. I not only love the films going back to my childhood but also have a very long relationship with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall because they did Empire of the Sun many years back. There was discussion, [and] I hope there will be future discussions.”

Sadly, he didn’t go into details as to who he could have played, or why talks fell through, but we’re sure many are beginning to speculate as to whether or not it’s a quality issue. However, the other big thing worth focusing on is his openness to have discussions in the future.

Personally, I’d love to see Bale star in Rian Johnson’s new trilogy — one that’s removed from the rest of the Star Wars universe. He’d be a great addition to the mythology, and could help bring some extra gravitas to a big risk for Lucasfilm.
