We’re nearly halfway through August which means fall is on the way! Fall brings my favorite holiday of them all, Halloween! However, as soon as stores start putting up Halloween stuff, the chubby dude in the red suit gets a small corner. Usually, it just starts out as bright lights trying to fight the darkness of All Hallows’ Eve, but it spreads like cancer and before you know it… Christmas has taken over. Seriously, I’ve seen stores have more Christmas stuff up by the week of Halloween than they do for Halloween itself. It’s ridiculous.

Anyways, with the holiday season coming we can expect the yearly flood of Christmas movies. This isn’t always a bad thing as we get excuses to watch classics like Home Alone, The Santa Clause, and Scrooged. It also brings up the fight on whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It isn’t. There will also be a slew of made for TV movies and sequels to said films, and that finally brings us to the topic of this article. Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles was a fun film that starred Kurt Russel as Kris Kringle. It told the story of a couple of kids, who had lost their firefighter father, teaming up to catch Santa. Their plan goes wrong and they end up causing Santa to crash his sleigh. A lot of hijinks ensue including a musical number with Santa in jail. The movie was nothing amazing, but it was worth a watch.

Thanks to Discussing Film we now know there is a sequel in the works. Chris Columbus, who produced the first film and directed classics like Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire, will take the director’s chair this time around. Kurt Russel will also return to the role of Saint Nicholas. Production is set to begin in September, which doesn’t seem like a lot of time to get it ready for this holiday season. However, if things go right it could make it to your TV screen in time for Christmas Eve.
