Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment has added more people to the voice cast of the animated sequel of The Secret Life of Pets 2.
Two surprise announcements were made at CinemaCon 2018 this week during the Universal Pictures’ presentation.
The first being that Harrison Ford will make his animated debut with The Secret Life of Pets 2. It’s not known at this time on which animal he’ll be playing, so we’ll wait and seem. I’m actually surprised that in his very, very long career–he hasn’t done a single animated film.
Additionally, it was confirmed to the convention audiences that Patton Oswalt will join the cast to voice the protagonist Max. Louis C.K. is currently battling sexual harassment allegations and is being blackballed by Hollywood on any future projects. Louis C.K. is keeping a low profile and Universal doesn’t want to touch this controversy.
Also on stage, Universal’s comedian and moderator Tiffany Haddish also announced that she’ll be joining the animated voice cast with Kevin Hart (who is in the original movie). She jokingly said that she will play a shih tzu. It was a running joke on stage and it was unclear on whether she was serious or joking about playing that animal for the movie.
Other announced voice cast will include Nick Kroll and Pete Holmes. Voice actors returning will include Jenny Slate, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress and Bobby Moynihan.
Secret Life of Pets grossed over $875 million worldwide. The sequel is planned for June 7, 2019. In the meantime, Illumination and Universal is looking forward to Dr. Seuss’s The Grinch in November.
