This past weekend at SXSW saw a lot of great content premiere. Earlier this morning, we discussed the positive reception that Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One received, but it wasn’t the only one to get rave social media reactions. This past weekend also saw the pilot episode of Marvel’s upcoming series, Cloak and Dagger premiere.
For those who don’t know, Cloak and Dagger is a series that’s been in the works for quite some time now (with its first trailer premiering almost a year ago). In the grand tradition of spreading the love, Marvel Television decided to air this series on Freeform, a Disney-owned network that focuses on the “New Adult” demographic, which is generally 18 to 30.
How did their first foray into this network fare? Like Ready Player One, audiences seem to be enthusiastic.

I’ll have more thoughts on the premiere episode of Marvel’s #CloakAndDagger up on the site soon, but let me just say this: the two young leads are immensely good. They’ll be the reason the watch.

The #CloakAndDagger first episode was a solid, promising start. That said, there’s nothing very new or different on display. If you like the current Marvel tv offerings, you’ll likely enjoy this. pic.twitter.com/e728sN2RA1

All in all, if you haven’t been much of a fan of what these comic book TV series have offered, it doesn’t sound like it’ll have anything new to offer. But if you’re a fan of the characters Cloak and Dagger, and DO like what these shows have done, it sounds like you can do much worse. Rest assured, this is no Inhumans.
