Prior to lockdown halting production there were many rumors that The Batman takes inspiration from The Long Halloween. ‘The Long Halloween’ is a classic Batman comic book story and was also inspirational for The Dark Knight. Now The Batman‘s co-writer gives us a hint those rumors were true.
Yesterday saw news break that The Batman had shifted it’s release date almost 4 months to October, 2021. It was after this news broke that the movies co-writer Mattson Tomlin released the following post on Twitter. Check it out below.

Tomlin might not come out and confirm The Long Halloween rumors directly. However, this is a pretty big hint that October suits the movies release for a good reason. I.e. it may well be Halloween time in the movie? So just what happens in The Long Halloween, and what could it mean?
Well, without spoiling The Long Halloween, the basics of the story are as follows. Batman is investigating a murder across Halloween, and goes through a lot of his rogue’s gallery looking for clues. As the story progresses Batman discovers that this crime is a lot more complicated than it seemed at first. Now, this is the part that lines up with all those rumors.

On the other hand, the inspiration that The Dark Knight took from The Long Halloween, was more the way the story revolved around Batman, Dent Joker, and Gordon as a quartet. I would not expect an actual adaptation of The Long Halloween, that’s never been how things have worked with Batman in movies. Nolan’s system of taking elements from different comic stories and merging them together was very successful. I therefore expect The Batman to take this basic outline for The Long Halloween and turn the story in another direction.
So, Matt Tomlin teases The Batman takes inspiration from The Long Halloween. And, this matches with the rumors we have already heard. Lets us know what you think of this news? Are you excited to see what director Matt Reeves is doing with The Batman? Leave your thoughts below as always.
