Conan The Barbarian Returns To Marvel Comics

Today Marvel Entertainment and Conan Properties International announced the return of the iconic Conan franchise to Marvel Comics.

The character is based of the fictional character that was originally created by Robert E. Howard. His first appearance in comics was in Marvel Comics, Conan the Barbarian #1 in October of 1970. It was written by Roy Thomas with artwork by Barry Smith. Marvel continued to publish Conan titles such as his main title Conan The Barbarian, Conan The Adventurer, Conan the Savage and Savage Sword of Conan though 2000 when they stopped.

Conan’s licence was then picked up by Dark Horse Comics in 2003 until the end of this year when Marvel Comics will once again start publishing Conan titles starting in early 2019. Here are some images that were provided to us by Marvel Entertainment.

“‘From Barry Windsor-Smith to John Buscema to Neal Adams, a legendary line-up of amazing artists brought Conan to life in the pages of Marvel comics,’ said C.B. Cebulski, editor-in-chief of Marvel. ‘It’s a legacy we’re now going to live up to with the talent we have lined up for the Cimmerian barbarian’s homecoming in early 2019. We’re excited!'”

“‘We’re thrilled to be working with Marvel and look forward to the new adventures in store for Conan,’ said Fredrik Malmberg, President of Conan Properties International. ‘As the most well-known and creative publisher in the industry, we think Marvel is a great fit for our stories.'”

With this deal in place Marvel Comics will once again be able to bring fans a variety of Conan titles. For now there is no news on the upcoming titles for Conan, collections, reprints or creative teams. Are you looking forward to Marvel once again publishing Conan the Barbarian?
