Crazy Rich Asians Director Wants To Do A Rose Tico Disney+ Series

While I can’t say Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was offensively bad (it’s no Prequel film), I can say that it let me down in more ways than I can count. From the retcons from The Last Jedi to bringing back the Emperor, I’m not short on thoughts for missed opportunities this final film had. One such missed opportunity was that of Rose Tico.

Originating in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, Rose was a character that many different fans had problems with, and as a result, actress Kelly Marie Tran was essentially bullied off social media following the film’s release. However, rather than work to do better by her character, she was effectively written out of The Rise of Skywalker, in a move that seems more than a little cowardly, in this writer’s opinion. She effectively got Jar Jar Binks’d, which is a shame because she’s objectively a much less annoying character than Jar Jar ever was.

Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu took to Twitter to offer up his services to help redeem the character.

“Ok @DisneyPlus,” Chu tweeted out, tagging the official Disney+ account and Star Wars account. “Put me in coach. Let’s make this series happen.” Of course, he ended the tweet with the hashtag “RoseTicoDeservedBetter @starwars.”

While I’m not sure what the chances are of this, it is pretty cool that Chu showed that much enthusiasm. A lot of times with these stories pulled from Twitter, you have a filmmaker or actor who vaguely says they’d be down to do something, and you’d get headlines saying “BLAH BLAH WANTS TO DO A MOVIE!”

In this case, however, it’s really not hyperbole to say that Chu has started a push to get Rose her own Disney+ show.

But what do you think? Do you think it’ll happen, and if so, are you interested in seeing what it has to offer? Let us know your thoughts down below!
