MGM has announced that Creed 2, the sequel to 2015’s critically-acclaimed Creed, will hit theaters on November 21, 2018.
Creed 2 will see the return of Michael B. Jordan in the titular role of Adonis Creed. It will also see Sylvester Stallone not only return as Rocky Balboa, but as the writer and director of the film. This will mark Stallone’s grand return as writer and director of the franchise since 2005’s Rocky Balboa, which was actually a pretty decent movie.

When last we heard, Creed 2 was set to begin production in February of 2018, which means there will be a fairly quick 9-month turn around between start of production and release of the completed film. Given our blockbuster-laden ecosystem, that would seem like not nearly enough time, but given how low-key something like Creed 2 compared to, say, Ant-Man and the Wasp, it’s not exactly a huge surprise.
Details regarding Creed 2 are sparse, but we do know that it will see the return of actor Dolph Lundgren as Ivan Drago — the man who killed Apollo Creed in Rocky IV in the ring. It sounds like this movie will see Adonis getting revenge for his father’s death.
As far as the actual release date goes, competition isn’t so bad, with Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 being its stiffest competition. However, given that the demographics don’t line up completely, Creed 2 still stands to make decent box office returns in that weekend.
