Creed 2 To Bring Back Ivan Drago?

A couple years back, we saw the return of Rocky Balboa and the spirit of the boxing underdog with the film Creed. While a start to its own series, it also served as a seventh film in the ongoing Rocky saga, with Sylvester Stallone’s iconic Italian Stallion serving as a supporting character to Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s old friend, Apollo Creed. The film was a resounding success on all fronts, both as a boxing movie and an emotional rollercoaster, but fans were left wondering what we would begetting from an inevitable sequel.

Time has passed, and while audiences haven’t forgotten about the need for a sequel just yet, it’s been a hot minute since Creed has been a part of a conversation. Well, Sly Stallone took to Instagram to remedy the situation. In the instagram post, we see a photoshopped picture of Adonis Creed going head to head with Rocky IV big bad Ivan Drago, with Rocky in the background, coaching Creed along the way.

In the caption, Stallone wrote:

“Here’s a chance to stretch your imagination … HISTORY WILL ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER, JUST GOT TO BE READY! … Sins of the Father…. #creed2 # agentnickyc”

For those Rocky fans who have somehow forgotten who Ivan Drago is (or more likely, those Creed fans who never bothered with the Rocky series), he’s the Russian boxer who killed Apollo Creed in the ring. While in 2015’s Creed, Adonis had long since made peace with the fact that his father had died in the ring, it would make sense that he’d go face to face with it once again, as he is now involved in the boxing world.

So what does this mean for Drago? Will Dolph Lundgren play the coldhearted Siberian Bull once more? And what will time have done to him? After all, the political climate has waxed and waned a whole lot, so I’d be intrigued to see what became of Drago. All in all, this is a welcome storyline, not just from a plot perspective, but for an emotional and character-growing one as well. I only hope it doesn’t become an instance where Creed boxes one of Drago’s own apprentices. We’ll have to wait and see.
