Current Spider-Man Deal Has One More Lend Back Confirms Sony's Tom Rothman

Tom Rothman, Sony Picture Chair confirms current Spider-Man deal has one more lend back from Sony to Marvel. However Rothman, whilst not quite saying there’s a deal for more movies, does hope there will be one and that this relationship with Disney and Marvel Studios will continue beyond this contract.

Speaking at the Red Carpet for Spider-Man: No Way Home with ComicBook.com‘s Brandon Davis, Rothman clarified the situation.

“It’s reciprocal. So we lend one, and they lend one, and that’s how Benedict [Cumberbatch] is in this movie,” Rothman explained. “So we have one more ‘lend back’ that’s committed. But the thing that I can say, and this actually the accurate scoop on this, which is that the two companies have a terrific working relationship. I think it’s a mutual hope that that would continue. But there really isn’t anything definitive at this moment, because the truth of the matter is, we gotta ride [Spider-Man: No Way Home] and see what happens.”

Well if it’s all down to No Way Home‘s performance them I guess we can call it already right? Unlike every single other movie since the pandemic, Spider-Man: No Way Home looks to be a sell out. The hype is real. For now it looks like No Way Home will do pre-pandemic numbers. That will surely force Disney and Sony to come to another arrangement? The movie is currently sitting at 100% on RT for critics, though honestly, I tend to ignore most critics scores personally. I tend to find the audiences reactions are what really tell you how a movie is being received by the fans.

I am looking to get some tickets at a quiet time this week. Let’s hope I can manage and it’s not fully booked yet during the day? For now though, I’m very curious as to what the ‘lend back’ Sony owe Marvel is? There doesn’t look any obvious places for Holland to show up in other Marvel movies currently in production, but who knows? Could there be Sony characters in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? There’s been rumors of everyone in that movie?

What do you think of Rothman’s clarification that the current Spider-Man deal has one more lend back from Sony to Marvel? As always, leave any thoughts below.
