Daisy Ridley Hasn’t Been Offered Much Work Since Star Wars

In a recent interview, Daisy Ridley says she's ready for a Rey return in the upcoming Star Wars sequel currently in development.

It seems Daisy Ridley hasn’t been offered much work since Star Wars. Ridley was clearly the main star of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, so one might expect her new found fame would open a lot of doors for her career? However, things don’t always work out like you’d expect. Both Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen struggled for work after playing the lead roles in the original and prequel trilogies respectively. Is this curse going to pass on to Daisy Ridley as well?

Ridley recently spoke with EW and here is what she said about the lack of job offers since Star Wars ended for her.

“It was so sad to finish Star Wars. When the film was released, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was such a huge chapter. And, weirdly, the past few months of not having much… Obviously now it’s really nice to be working, but not having much [at the time] I feel like I processed the last five years. To be forced to slow down, it was good mentally for me because Star Wars was a big thing in my life.”

“Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through,” she continues. “I was like, ‘Aww! No one wants to employ me.'” Ridley later remarks how “there were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them. I had that moment of ‘Oh my god!’ and then just thought ‘everything in its right time’. Things started picking up.”

As for picking up, Ridley is doing some voice work for upcoming video game Twelve Minutes with James McAvoy. There are some other voice projects coming up that Ridley is signed up to. However, there is very little mention from her or he rumor mill of any big live-action roles. I honestly cannot for the life of me say why Mark Hamill struggled to get work? Over the years Hamill has proved a great character actor, ultimately having a celebrated voice acting career to boot. With Christensen I think a lot of the blame for how stilted the prequels were was laid at his feet, perhaps unfairly, perhaps not? However, I am sure this image had an effect on his career for the worse.

Let’s just hope Ridley does not find herself in a similar predicament? I kinda loathe those Star Wars sequels, but the talent on screen was solid. Of the many aspects of those movies I did not enjoy, I cannot really lay any blame at the actors feet. They all did a great job with the material they were given to work with. I’m therefore kinda surprised that studios were not knocking down Ridley’s door to offer her parts?
