Daisy Ridley Ready For Rey Return In Star Wars Sequel

In a recent interview, Daisy Ridley says she’s ready for a Rey return in the upcoming Star Wars sequel currently in development. The Rey Sequel, as we are calling it currently, will be helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and is currently being rewritten by Stephen Knight. Ridley has been pitched on the story by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, but she’s yet to read the script.

Speaking to Empire, Ridley says she’s ready for this Rey return.

“Coming in a bit more eyes wide open” to the whole experience. “I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it. I suppose I owned it the first time. Basically, I’m an adult now,” she explains. “I certainly did not feel like an adult at the time. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had lots of other experiences, and so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time.” Even after three films – and a considerable amount of online discourse – Ridley still holds real affection for the world of Star Wars. “There’s just a lot of joy with me and these films,” she says. “Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It feels like a great thing to be a part of.”

Might be slightly uncouth of me to mention the fact that Ridley has said herself she’s struggled to get work since Star Wars. Ergo, this is a paycheck I don’t think she can turn down. But it all feels nicer by her own words, so we’ll pretend that’s the main reason.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision,” she says. “I didn’t say yes right away, Kathy [Kennedy] was like, ‘Take as long as you need.’” Not that it took that long to say yes. “Why wouldn’t I [do it]? Yes, they have been divisive, but also they bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people. It feels pretty amazing to be able to continue a character – like, can I even remember how to play her? It’s an interesting challenge as an actor to come back to something and try to figure out what’s changed for me and what’s changed for her.”

I know a certain demographic will hate this idea because they hate the character of Rey. Now I dislike those sequels as much as anyone, but Rey was never the issue, nor was it Ridley. Writing was always the issue with those sequels and Ridley was subject to the whims of J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson on those movies. The Palpatine connection was a big mistake to me. However, we kinda have to live with that now going forward.

This Rey Sequel movie is expected to get underway by the end of this year. However, that really all does depend how quickly Knight finishes his script and whether Lucasfilm is happy with it?

What d you think of her comments as Daisy Ridley says she’s ready for a Rey return in the upcoming Star Wars sequel? Thoughts below as usual.
