Some Daredevil: Born Again news broke over the weekend revealing the premiere director plus the news of a Vanessa recast. The Information comes from THR, who report that Michael Cuesta (Dexter) will direct the opening episode of the series. The report does not detail if Cuesta will direct any other episodes, nor any other directors who may be involved. Given the series will run for an atypical 18 episodes I guess there’s gonna be a few more names in that mix.

‘Michael Cuesta, the director behind the pilots for shows such as Dexter and Homeland, is helming the first episode for Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again.’

The trade then goes on to mention that the role of Vanessa Fisk has been recast for the series.

‘Other actors on the call sheet include Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt, the latter of whom is playing Vanessa Fisk, the wife of Fisk. Michael Gaston (Chicago P.D., Mayor of Kingstown) is also in the series.’

Now, anyone who has seen Daredevil Seasons 1-3 will know that Ayelet Zurer played Vanessa and the pair were married in Season 3. The trade gives no reason for the casting change. However if we look to the Barside Buzz, then leaker The Watcher claims this was simply scheduling.

Ergo, if this is right, we should expect some more recasts in Born Again. Now, I’ve nothing against Sandrine Holt at all. However Zurer was amazing as Vanessa and she and D’Onofrio had a chemistry that worked. It may have only been a minor role, but it will be hard to picture someone else filling it. I hope Holt, who is a great actress, can have a similar chemistry with her on-screen husband.
