I’m sure by this point you have seen the new Dark Phoenix trailer. If not, you can check it out by clicking on the related article link below. From what we saw, much like the comics, Jean will lose control of herself and succumb to the cosmic force making her Dark Phoenix. We know that in the comics there were casualties, as well as in X-Men: The Last Stand, but I think most of us are shoving that to the side, so will it be the same for this film? The trailer clearly shows that Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Mystique, will meet her demise, but could there be more?
EW talked to director Simon Kinberg who revealed the following:
“One of the biggest set pieces shown in the trailer is a scene with the X-Men in a train that Jean eventually lifts off the ground. Can you tease that a bit?”
“Yeah I don’t want to give too much way because it is one of our biggest sequences. As consequence of what happens in New York, the X-Men and Magneto and the people Magneto has brought with him end up in that train. There’s an attack on the train and Jean is part of it, and at a certain point does float out of the train and with her powers that are supercharged by this Phoenix force inside her, literally rips the train off the tracks and sends it spinning through the air and people go flying of the train. It ends well for some and not so well for others.”
The last line is the clincher. “It ends well for some and not so well for others.” So what does that mean? Well, more than likely others will die, but who? Checking out the train scene we can at least see that Magneto, Professor X, Beast, Storm, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, and a couple of others I couldn’t quite make out. Could there be more as well aside from the one train car we see? This could be extremely interesting seeing as there seem to be two separate factions: those who want to save Jean and those who want to kill her.

I’m not super surprised Mystique is going to die. I think that they gave the character much more of an impact in the films mainly because Jennifer Lawrence plays her, but strictly focusing on the character herself dying, it isn’t that big of a deal to me. Alright, so what other big names do you think will go? Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
