Well, I guess you know when you have made it big. Not only is Dave Bautista playing a role in Xbox exclusive Gears of War 5, he is actually playing himself. I’m going to guess that Bautista’s character will only appear in the non-story modes, which so far seem to be Horde, Multiplayer and Escape Room. The characters from the story will likely be the same characters from Gears of War 4 after all.

After this announcement a few more details appeared from The Coalition (the developers) and it was revealed that Bautista has recorded hundreds of lines and sound bites for his character in the game. Gears of War 5, as Bautista says, hits on September 15th, though it is available earlier for holders of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

I do plan to at the very least play through the campaign for this game with friends as we are all Xbox game Pass holders. However, whether it keeps my attention beyond that will depend on how well those non-story modes are put together this time. I was a huge fan of the original Gears of War, but somehow the series has lost its way a little for me over the years. Here’s hoping for a triumphant return to form in Gears of War 5.
