Have you been itching for a good ol’ fashioned thriller flick to sit down and watch? I certainly have, and while I won’t complain about all the big-budget action flicks we get in theaters nowadays, there does seem to be a distinct lack of pure standard action-thrillers in the vein of Die Hard. Sure, if you look at novels, there are more than enough to go around, but on film? Not so much these days.
Enter this new film Final Score, which is set to hit theaters and VOD this coming September. The film stars Dave Bautista, and it follows him as an ex-soldier with lethal fighting skills to match his ripped physique. When deadly terrorists abduct his niece at a soccer match — and take the whole stadium hostage while they’re at it — he must use the aforementioned fighting skills to take them down.
While the movie doesn’t look to be winning Oscars any time soon, but it does look to be a great deal of fun, with actor Pierce Brosnan also playing what looks to play a key role. If you’ve been hungry for a solid action movie does that doesn’t necessarily exist in a current franchise, this might be up your alley.
I’d like to take a moment to pour one out for the action-thriller franchise. With the exception of Mission: Impossible and now John Wick, it does seem like there are fewer and fewer of these mid-to-low-budget action vehicles actually making it to theaters. Can you believe experiences like this used to be the bulk of our theater-going experiences back in the ’90s?
