Dave Filoni Plays Coy When Asked About The Mandalorian Season 4

Some more The Mandalorian and Grogu casting news plus a rumor Rotta the Hutt will be 'buff' in the movie.

In a recent interview with ET following his win at the Saturn Awards, Dave Filoni plays coy when asked about The Mandalorian Season 4. As we all know this year will see production begin on the movie The Mandalorian and Grogu, directed by Filoni’s co-conspirator on Mando Jon Favreau. This will at some point be tail ended by a movie directed by Filoni himself. However we have no idea when that will go into production.

For now Filoni’s next project he’s in charge of seems to be Ahsoka Season 2. As you can see in the video below talk starts with Filoni commemorating his Mando colleague Carl Weathers after his sudden passing at the weekend. Weathers was both a series regular and a director of two episodes on The Mandalorian. However talk did turn to the aforementioned The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Filoni goes on to say how excited he is for the movie and how great he’s sure it will be under the creative control of Jon Favreau. Favreau certainly has the experience as a movie director and he has been co-showrunning all the MandoVerse shows with Filoni since inception. However when asked what will happen with The Mandalorian Season 4 Filoni clams up big time. He avoids the question by saying he won’t be falling for any Jedi mind tricks into divulging any information. Check it out.

For now I can only assume the following based on evidence. The Mandalorian Season 4 is the same story being retooled into The Mandalorian and Grogu. Some of that evidence is rumors, though from sources I trust. However if we start with the basic facts, we know Jon Favreau said he had the scripts finalized for The Mandalorian Season 4 prior to the strikes. Unless there was also a movie script kept hidden, it’s pretty clear what happened.

Add in the rumors and we know a bit more. That Disney supposedly pulled the trigger on this movie idea after previously preferring the series option. None of the rumors indicate a movie was separately being developed. Though, we cannot rule it out completely. Ergo, the most likely scenario is that in order to make box office money and get a Star Wars film in theatres, Disney chose to turn The Mandalorian Season 4 into a movie. Does that mean we will never get a Season 4 of the show? No, they could still make what would be a Season 5 and it would still be called Season 4.

I doubt we’ll ever get that confirmed in any shape or fashion though from Disney. We may find out more once the movie is released. But no one will ever say Disney panicked and pushed this button, which I think they did.

What do you think of this interview as Dave Filoni plays coy on The Mandalorian Season 4? As always, leave your thoughts below.
